Victoria, BC – United Way and Island Health are collaborating with Pacifica Housing residents to improve Medewiwin.
On Friday, December 4, 2015 between 11am-3pm, Island Health will be volunteering alongside Pacifica Housing residents and staff at Medewiwin Supported Housing Complex. The teams will work together to give Medewiwin an interior ‘facelift’ by helping with fresh coats of paint and preparing the community room for a resident mural where each tenant will contribute their personal touch and self expression on an allocated space.
This volunteer event is part of United Way’s Day of Caring is a program that brings United Way funded community partners together with United Way donors to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities. By participating in a Day of Caring, donors better understand how together they are positively impacting the lives of vulnerable people across Greater Victoria. Donors learn about the issues facing our region by getting to see first-hand how their gifts help individuals and families move from poverty to possibility and build stronger communities.
“It is very inspiring to have Island Health come and work alongside the residents of Medewiwin and help make their home more beautiful. There is something very therapeutic about having a living space spruced up, repainted, rearranged and ultimately made fresh. We are grateful to be a funded community partner of United Way, and excited be working so closely with one of their supporters on this event,” said Dean Fortin, Executive Director.

About United Way
United Way ‘unites’ the generosity of people – business, labour, government and individual donors – with the skills, knowledge and expertise in our community to help those in need. This collaborative approach is building a stronger, more resilient community to serve current and future generations.
As the region’s largest non-government funder, we assist charitable organizations by identifying and funding programs to address immediate needs and underlying causes of our community’s most pressing social challenges.
We are active in our community all year round through fundraising and community building, and provide multi-year funding to create a strong and stable network of services. For 78 years we have served this community and raised over $150 million. Our work, as a community leader, is as relevant today as it ever was. And with the ongoing support of our donors, we will continue to changes lives. Together, We Are Possibility.
