Responsibilities the Council

Within the framework of the United Way evolving to a Community Impact Organization and related Community Partnership Principles, the councils will:

  • Develop the overall short and long term goals and strategies for the particular community impact area including identifying yearly priorities and measures of success and related indicators.
  • Ensure appropriate community consultation processes are in place to develop overall strategies and measures of success.
  • Support and advocate for collaboration and partnership in the community.
  • Identify gaps in the community asset base with respect to desired outcomes.
  • Identify funding targets for the Impact Area, for each year of the strategy and recommend to the UWGV Board of Directors.
  • Once a funding target has been set by the UWGV Board of Directors for the given Impact Area, recommend appropriate funding distribution strategy to support overall strategy and yearly priorities.
  • Manage yearly funding distribution and evaluation process. Give the scope of responsibilities of each Council; the Council may establish a sub-committee of the Council to undertake the work of evaluating funding proposals. The sub-committees will be chaired by a member of the Impact Council, and all funding recommendations will be brought to the UW Board for approval.
  • Monitor impact of funded programs on community outcomes/measures of success and recommend any changes in overall goals, strategies, priorities, measures of success and/or funding targets to the board of Directors.
  • Review performance of funded partners in consultation with UWGV staff and recommend to the Board any changes in existing relationships with funded partners.
