If you are 14-19 years, live in the CRD and want to respond creatively to social issues in our community, please join us at Blanshard Community Centre on Sundays, Feb. 19th and Feb. 26th from 1-5pm. Instruction, art materials and lunch will be provided. Just bring your creative selves!
The Change Starts Here Art Show was created to inspire young people to respond creatively to the issues in Greater Victoria and offer ideas on how to make a difference in our community. We encourage you to start your projects early. We look forward to celebrating and exhibiting your entry in May!
To enter, please complete form below.
Entry Guidelines:
- All entries need to incorporate the ‘change starts here’ theme which means we want submissions to speak to social issues in the community and offer hope for change. We are looking for creative, expressive, and thought provoking visual artwork that educates, challenges beliefs and raises awareness in our community.
- Entries can’t exceed 36” X 48” (exceptions may be made if approved in advance).
- Artwork must be original creations, completed by the entrant.
- Participants may submit more than one work.
- As all entries will be hung, submissions MUST have either large eyelet hangers or a sturdy picture wire attached to the back, so they can be hung easily.
- Each entry MUST have a label on the back indicating your name, title of work and contact information.
Important Dates:
- The deadline for submitting this entry form is March 31, 2011 at 5pm.
- Entries must be delivered to Cedar Hill Recreation Centre Arts Centre at 3220 Cedar Hill Road (corner North Dairy) on Sunday, April 29 between 10am – 2pm.
Note: If you are participating in the AGGV’s New Mentorship Program, your submission will be transferred from the Art Gallery to the Arts Centre.
- The exhibit dates are Monday, April 30 – Sunday, May 13.
- Entries will need to be picked up on Sunday, May 13 between 2pm – 6pm.
- We encourage all who submit to attend the exhibit reception evening on Friday, May 4 at 7:00pm. Guests are invited to attend free of charge.
- The winners of the scholarship and prizes will be announced at the reception on Friday, May 4.
When you complete and submit the form you and your parent/guardian are giving permission to the United Way of Greater Victoria (UWGV) and persons authorized by UWGV to publish, exhibit or post the submitted work in whole or in part in photographs, printed matter, on the UWGV website and / or in public presentations to promote or share information about the United Way.
