United Way is committed to protecting your privacy and to maintaining the confidentially of your personal information. The information you or your employer provide to us is used to help us in our campaign, process and receipt your donation, distribute a contribution to your charity of choice and respond to any of your information requests. Purpose for Collection of Donor Data
We ensure that the donor information we collect is relevant. Purposes for collecting the information include to:
• Understand who our donors are and how we may improve our services to meet donor preferences and expectations.<
• Process a donation, for example, to process a credit card transaction.
• Issue and deliver your donation tax receipt.
• Distribute a designated donation to another registered charity.
• Recognize a contribution.
• Register your participation in a conference, meeting, or other event.
• Respond to your information requests.

Donor Consent
• We obtain prior donor consent for acknowledgment in recognition materials.
• We do not exchange nor trade, in any way, the names of donors participating in workplace campaigns.
• We respect your right to be removed from our mailing list.
• We will not provide or share your personal information with third parties unless you authorize us to do so or law requires us.

Confidentiality and Security
• We continually review and improve methods of how donor information is shared and stored.
• Hard copy files of specific individual information are kept in a secure environment.
• Our computer systems are secure and protect donor information from public view.
• Our web site also uses a secure server to obtain your personal information for donations and/or registration. The server software encrypts all information that you input before it is sent to us.

Statement of Principles for Donors’ Rights

  • The Donor participates in the very essence of our mission and purpose, exercises rights, prerogatives and fundamental privileges that must be recognized at all times and without reservation.
  • The right to be informed of the organization’s mission and purpose and to become a member of the organization if the donor so wishes.
  • The right to know the identity of the organization’s officers and members of the Board of Directors and to expect that they act with the greatest transparency, integrity and discernment in implementing the organization’s mission and purpose for the best interests of the community.
  • The right to have access to the organization’s annual financial statements and to easily obtain a copy;
  • The right to know how donations, directly or indirectly contributed to the organization are distributed, and to be assured that donated funds are used as intended by the donor.
  • The right to be treated with consideration and respect by the organization and to receive appropriate acknowledgment and recognition.
  • The right to confidentiality regarding personal information about donors and facts about their donations.
  • The right to expect that all relationships between the organization’s representatives, and the donor, will be professional in nature.
  • The right to be informed of the exact nature of the relationship which exists between fundraisers and the organization.
  • The right to expect that the organization will not share or sell a mailing list which includes the donor’s name, without providing the donor with a meaningful opportunity to decline.
  • The right to ask questions of the organization and to expect prompt, truthful, and complete answers in an easy-to-understand manner.
