A Message from the President & CEO

This week, we recognized the power of working together in a united way at our annual United Way Spirit Awards. Every year we recognize and celebrate our donors, business partners, our workplace champions, labour leaders, community advocates and dedicated volunteers.

We also announced our overall fundraising achievement from 2017: $5.01 million raised! We are on track for our three year fundraising goal of $15 million. Thank you!

United Way Greater Victoria is part of a national and global movement that acts locally. Our work is powered by a deep and broad network of connections that allows us to provide an integrated and collaborative approach. This really sets us apart in the sector.

United, we are building stronger more resilient communities for you, your co-workers, your friends, your neighbours, your families and for future generations.

When I joined United Way in 2014, the Spirit Awards was my first event as CEO.

This year, it was my last event as President & CEO.

I will be leaving United Way in early May after leading the non-profit for the past four years. I know I leave the organization with a clear and strong future direction, well on the path to continuing to build a strong and caring and inclusive community.

United Way Greater Victoria is in good hands under a strong leadership team. An interim co-CEO team of Janet Tudor, Director Operations, and Danella Parks, Director Community Investment will co-lead the organization starting May 1. A formal recruitment process is underway for a new President & CEO and is expected to conclude over the next 3 to 6 months.

I feel truly privileged to have led United Way Greater Victoria as President & CEO over the past four years. I am so proud of the accomplishments and achievements we can count over that time on behalf of our community.

I want to thank the Board of Directors and our Campaign Cabinet for your governance and leadership; our donors – individual and workplace donors – because without your support, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do; our community partners; our labour partners; our municipal and provincial government leaders; my friends at the Chamber; and the team at United Way Greater Victoria.

Most importantly, I want to thank all of the people who have turned to United Way-funded services for help. Your stories of struggle, resilience, strength and hope inspire me daily. It has been my pleasure to work alongside all of you.

Know that I will forever be a United Way Champion.
