VICTORIA, BC – United Way is proud to announce that Al Hasham will be the 2018 and 2019 United Way Greater Victoria Community Campaign Chair. In this volunteer position, Mr. Hasham will lead the community fundraising efforts for United Way Greater Victoria in 2018 and 2019, working alongside the local United Way team. Al will help United Way Greater Victoria realize its three-year goal of $15 million to be raised by the end of the 2019 campaign.

“Al is an entrepreneur with heart,” says Patricia Jelinski, President & CEO, United Way Greater Victoria. “I’ve known Al for years through the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce and know how committed he is to his community. We’re honored to have him lead our fundraising campaign.”

Al supports dozens of charity events annually in Victoria with complimentary services through his company Maximum Express Courier. He has also held five annual fundraising events through Max Furniture benefitting United Way.

Al got involved with United Way after hearing how a business associates’ son got help from a local United Way funded partner agency.

“I love my community and I love that United Way gives back right here in Victoria and across the Capital Regional District from Sooke to Sidney to Saltspring Island,” said Al Hasham. “Powerful and passionate – that’s how I feel about the work United Way does here. United Way ‘unites’ the generosity of people – business, labour, government and individual donors – with the skills, knowledge and expertise in the community to help those in need. This collaborative approach is building a stronger, more resilient community to serve current and future generations.

As one of the region’s largest annual funder of local social service programs, we assist charitable organizations by identifying and funding programs to address immediate needs and underlying causes of our community’s most pressing social challenges.

We are active in the community all year round through fundraising and community building, and provide multi-year funding to create a strong and stable network of local services. For 80 years we have served the community and raised over $160 Million. Our work, as a community leader, is as relevant today as it ever was. And with the ongoing support of our donors, we will continue to changes lives.
